HELP WITH IMAGEs

Edit and Save Your Photo

Once your photo is on your computer hard drive, you can resize it with photo editing software, which may have come with your digital camera, scanner or even the default application of your computer.

Tips:

  • Open your image in your photo editing software (Or double the image file icon to have it auto-open in the default package).
  • Edit the picture if necessary (perhaps crop in to a close up of the item for sale).
  • Resize your file (Ideally to a width of 130px with height checked at fixed ratio so that it resizes in proportion).
This is usually found under the 'image' menu in many programs.
  • Save your edited picture as a JPEG (.jpg) file, (file types other than JPEG and GIF should not be used). Here's how (in many programs):
    • Click the File menu.

    • Select Save As….

    • The Save As dialog box displays, enabling you to name your file.

    • Use the Save as type drop-down list, Select JPEG (.jpg) or GIF (.gif).

    • Click Save or OK.

When editing, minimize the number of intermediate saves in JPEG format since successive saves will reduce quality. Now you are ready to upload your picture to BootFairOnline!

Picture Size Issues

  • If you are receiving an error message stating that your file is too large please check the size of your picture. Use your image editing software (such software is usually included as an extra with new digital cameras), and re-size your picture to 1.5 megabyte (1500 KB) in size or smaller. To check the size of the picture file on a Microsoft Windows system, open the folder that contains the picture and select Details on the View menu. The size of the picture file will display in the size column.

  • If you are on a dial-up connection to the internet (using a phone line) it may take several minutes for each 1.5 megabyte picture to upload to bootfaironline. If you want to make uploads faster, you can use your image editing software to resize the picture files before uploading, usually with no noticeable effect on quality. We recommend you resize your images to a width of 130px fixing the resize ratio so that the height is resized in proportion.
